About the Learnership Programme

Sibanye-Stillwater invites external and internal applicants to apply for the Learnership 18.1 – Learner Official A Stream for the 2026 intake.

This programme is designed to develop young South Africans who show strong academic potential and interest in the mining sector. Successful candidates will receive structured theoretical and practical training aligned with mining operations, safety standards, and professional workplace development.

The learnership forms part of Sibanye-Stillwater’s commitment to skills development, youth empowerment, and employment equity.

Minimum Required Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet all the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate with:
    • English: Level 5 (60% or higher)
    • Mathematics: Level 5 (60% or higher)
    • Physical Science: Level 5 (60% or higher)
  • Must have University acceptance with an APS score of 23
    • Mid-year results may be provisionally considered for learners currently completing Grade 12
  • Must not currently be studying at a university
  • Must not have completed prior university studies

Additional Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be medically fit for the specific business area
  • Have a clear security screening record
  • Reside within the labour-sending area or local community
  • Hold a valid driver’s license (if applicable)
  • Be willing to undergo:
    • Workplace orientation
    • Underground exposure visits
  • Successfully pass SAPS clearance as required by the National Explosives Act
  • Obtain a final acceptance letter from the University of Johannesburg (final placement depends on this)

Experience Required

 No work experience required

This learnership is ideal for recent matriculants who meet the academic criteria and are seeking entry into the mining industry through structured development.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Responsibilities

  • Understand and commit to the objectives of the learnership programme
  • Complete all academic and workplace modules within required timeframes
  • Participate fully in training, assessments, and workplace exposure
  • Escalate learning or programme-related challenges when necessary
  • Adhere to all company rules, policies, and procedures

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

  • Comply with all legal safety requirements
  • Perform all tasks according to prescribed training standards
  • Attend SHE meetings when required
  • Wear and correctly use prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Identify hazardous situations and participate in job risk assessments

Reporting

  • Compile developmental progress reports
  • Communicate progress to relevant stakeholders
  • Report challenges, obstacles, and improvement opportunities
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations for continuous improvement

Selection Process

The recruitment process may include:

  • Pre-screening
  • Psychometric assessments
  • Panel interviews
  • Medical and security clearance checks
